Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken on Sunday accused the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party for miserably failing to deliver on their promises. It was necessary for the development of Bawana to elect three-time MlA Surender Kumar in the by-election as he has done a lot of development works in the area. He said all the developments in Bawana took place during the 15-year Congress rule in Delhi.
The Congress has fielded former union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Uttarkhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar, PC Chacko and ex-MP Sajjan Kumar in last ditch attempt as campaigning will end on Monday.
Addressing the election meetings in support of Surender Kumar at JJ Colony and Begumpur in Bawana, Maken said the BJP-ruled Central Government, which also governs the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi, and the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi have not done anything for those living in the JJ Clusters and for the development of the resettlement colonies. Maken said that the resettlement of the JJ clusters and providing all the basic amenities in the resettlement colonies were done by the Congress party. He said neither the BJP nor the AAP have done anything for the welfare of the poor and the weaker sections of the society. Maken said both the BJP and the AAP had lied to the people and made hollow promises without fulfilling any of the promises, and they were repeating the charade in the bye-election campaign in Bawana to fool the people once again.
Former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, addressing the election meeting at Bawana, said Congress candidate Surender Kumar should win the Bawana Assembly bye-election as he had done commendable work in Bawana during his three-term tenure as the MlA of the area. Shri Azad said that Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel and Abul Kalam Azad had made great sacrifices and served jail terms for the independence of the country.
Their families had also suffered a great deal for the freedom struggle. He said after independence, the all-round development of the country was carried out under the Congress rule.
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the Bawana bye-election has great significance, which will decide Delhi's politics in the days ahead. He said to measure any political party, there are three para metres like the policy of the party, its intention and leadership. He said Congress party fulfils all these three parameters whereas the AAP and the BJP do not come anywhere near these measurements.
Former Uttarkhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said the bye-election to the Bawana Assembly constituency is a unique election not only in the history of Delhi but also in the history of India as it is a brave battle to save democracy. He said the BJP, which promised two crore jobs for the youth of the country every year, was now trying to rob the poor of their jobs.
