Scores of visitors as well as employees will now be able to enjoy quality delicacies at reasonable rates at Civic Centre — the headquarters of the North and South Delhi Municipal Corporations - as IRCTC is set to open its first-ever cafeteria there.
located on the ground floor of the A-wing of the Civic Centre, the cafeteria will start functioning from this month-end. According to a senior official of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC), the civic body will provide the basic infrastructure while IRCTC will deploy its staff and replenish their strength according to the requirement. The corporation would permit the entire canteen and pantry premises to be utilised by IRCTC for providing the services.
“The NMC will be providing all the basic infrastructural facilities — including seating area, furniture and kitchen equipment — for setting up as well as operation of the canteen. IRCTC will provide technical assistance and same will be maintained by the IRCTC,” said Yogender Singh Mann, Director (Press and Information), NMC. He said the Health Department of the Corporation would keep an eye on quality of the food as well as hygiene at the upcoming cafeteria.
“There will be provision for breakfast, lunch and snacks during office hours on working days from 9 am to 6.30 pm, and food will be served as per the menu and rates mutually agreed upon by the IRCTC and the NMC.
While the food for employees of the Corporation will be available at subsidised rates, the visitors will have to pay the price as decided by the two agencies. The prices of the food to be served will be decided jointly by the Corporation and IRCTC taking into consideration the actual cost of raw material, overhead (manpower and other) expense, Government’s levies and taxes applicable,” said an official.
“Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre, the tallest building in the Capital, was deprived of a canteen ever since its opening. The employees and visitors rued that there was no arrangement for food in the building nor there was a restaurant at walking distance,” said an MCD official.
