47 kilo heroin, 2 kilo coke seized

In one of the biggest catches this year, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has busted an international drug syndicate spread across South East Asia and Gulf countries with arrest of four members of the syndicate. The police have seized 47 kilo of heroin and 2 kilo of crack cocaine which is valued over `150 crore in the international market. It was also learnt that this syndicate was being run by one Ali, based in Kuwait and Samiullah, based in Afghanistan.

According to the police Autar Singh (48) a resident of Delhi was arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi police on Saturday on a tip off. Three other members of the gang, A Venugopal Reddy (29), a resident of Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh, Ragmeet Singh (25) and Shurbir Singh (28), both residents of Delhi were arrested earlier this month and nine kg of heroine worth 30 crore was recovered from them.

Piecing together the information collected from the arrested trio and those collected from various sources police were able to close in on Autar Singh. With the impending New Year celebrations in the Capital and the NCR region, senior police officials are also trying to investigate if these drugs were being supplied for the scheduled parties during that time.

“A trap was laid near the red light of Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, GT Karnal Road and Autar Singh was apprehended in the early morning hours. On a search of his Hyundai Santro car, a total of 32 kilo of fine quality heroin and 2 kilo of cocaine was recovered which was neatly packed in polythene bags,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

Singh was produced before the court and his police remand was obtained. His sustained interrogation revealed that while leaving his home with the 34 kilo of contraband recovered from his possession, he had left behind a consignment of 6 kilo of Heroin at his residence. He was later taken to his residence in Tilak Nagar and on his instance the heroin was recovered.

A total of 49 kilo of contraband has been recovered so far in continuing operation. The continuing investigations are likely to result in more arrests and a better understanding of how high quality drugs are being pushed into India through the Punjab border and are being trafficked to other countries as well as being retailed amongst addicts in India. The consolidated demand is being generated by Kuwait based persons and the same is being met by Afghanistan based producers for onward transmission and consumption in varied markets is also likely to be understood in finer details as the investigation proceeds.
