The BJP president Rajnath Singh on Friday promised a comprehensive and integrated policy framework for rehabilitation of the migrants in Delhi even as he said the illegal Bangladeshi migrants would be identified on priority basis.
He said while the internal migration in India was due to wrong policies of the Centre and the respective State Governments; migration from neighbouring country was directly related to the nation’s security. “The BJP will ensure the illegal migrants residing in Delhi are identified and appropriate action taken to deport then from here,” Singh said, addressing a media briefing at Delhi BJP office on Friday.
He lamented that lakhs of migrants in Delhi from various States were in a state of neglect for the last 15 years despite contributing significantly to the GDP of Delhi. Citing various UN reports, Singh said the migrants in various States had proved to be an asset but unfortunately the Congress-led Governments always treated them as burden. “On coming to power, the BJP will come up with a scientific and humanitarian solution of this problem. A rehabilitation programme named Atal Bihari Vajpayee Jan Punarvas Yojana will be launched for upliftment of the migrants.
This will be in addition to the Delhi Migrants Commission as announced in the manifesto,” the BJP president said. “The unorganised workers, domestic servants, labourers, hawkers, construction workers and several others contributed nearly 10 to 12 per cent of Delhi’s GDP. About 49 per cent of Delhi’s population is forced to live in slums, JJ clusters and unauthorised colonies without transport, water, power and sanitation. The BJP will ensure respectable life, opportunities for earning livelihood and housing accommodation to this strata,” he said.
