The Delhi Government has decided to develop an integrated transit corridor and enhance street network connectivity at the Peeragarhi junction to ease traffic jams during peak hours.
The project will be completed within 18 months. After visiting the junction on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced that the Peeragarhi junction from Jwala Heri Market Red Light to Jwalapuri Red Light, NH-10 (Rohtak Road), would be developed as an integrated transit corridor with better connectivity.
The project to decongest Peeragarhi junction will be carried out in a phased manner and will include construction of road over bridge (RoB), foot over bridge (FoB) and underpasses in the area.
“This junction is a major connecting point between Delhi, Haryana and other States and the load on the road has increased over the years. This project will provide relief to lakhs of commuters from traffic woes at the Peeragarhi junction during peak hours,” said Sisodia. Peeragarhi junction will be decongested through improvement of the Peeragarhi Chowk Junction, ROB widening along the Ring Road going towards Mangolpuri, construction of a flyover at Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road, underpass U-turns for the right turning traffic at Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg and improvement of pedestrian access along with proposed FoBs.
Sisodia said, “The project to make the Peeragarhi junction traffic jam-free will be completed in one-and-a half- year. Along with a flyover on the Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road, an underpass U-turn will be constructed for right turning traffic on Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg.” “The RoB towards Mangolpuri alongside Ring Road will be widened, a new 3-3 lane ROB will be constructed on both sides up to 500 meters. The two FoBs will be constructed on both sides of Rohtak Road near Peeragarhi Chowk to facilitate smooth and safe pedestrian movement,” the Delhi Government said in a statement.
Sisodia also directed the PWD officials to complete the project in stipulated time and ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the commuters during construction.
