Five men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping Snapdeal employee Dipti Sarna last week. The main accused, Devendra, alias Rajiv, alias leelu, had bought two auto-rickshaws and started living in Ghaziabad.
He had conducted over 150 recces just to create circumstances to get her in to his auto-rickshaw at Vaishali Metro Station, after which, he kidnapped her, the Ghaziabad Police claimed. Devendra is a resident of Sonipat and has 30 criminal cases against him.
The other four accused are identified as Pradeep alias Fauzi, Mohit, Faheem and Mazid. In a Press conference, Ghaziabad SSP Dharmendra Yadav said the accused saw Dipti Sarna along with her boyfriend at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station a year ago and fell in love with her. He hatched a conspiracy to kidnap her in such a manner that he could win her over as a hero, he said.
Yadav added that the accused was highly inspired by Bollywood movie Darr, in which Shahrukh Khan gets obsessed with a woman. “He read Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf during the time he spent in jail and was inspired by the
relationship between Hitler and Eva Braun, and he also took inspiration from the life and struggle of Genghis Khan,” he added.
To execute his plan, Dharmendra contacted his two friends Pradeep alias Fauzi and Mohit. later, they involved two other accomplices Faheem and Mazid in their plan.
According to their plan, they queued up two autos at the Vaishali Metro Station on February 10. One was being driven by Devendra and other by Pradeep. The girl boarded Pradeep’s auto and occupied rear seat along with another woman, police said.
Devendra, who was driving the other auto, punctured Pradeep’s auto and created circumstances for Sarna to switch to Devendra’s auto. At that time Mohit, Faheem and Mazid were with him. They dropped the other co-passenger woman before turning the auto towards Raj Nagar Extension side from where the victim called her father.
They took her to Morti Village where they snatched her bag containing laptop and other articles and dumped it. They snatched her mobile phone and hid it in the sand under a construction site. On their way, the auto-rickshaw in which Sarna was being taken to broke down. Meanwhile, another accused was following them in a car, police said.
From the spot of the auto-breakdown, the prime accused made Sarna sit in his car and headed towards his native village. On the way, his vehicle ran out of gas for which he borrowed his cousin’s car and continued the journey towards a village in UP’s Baghpat.
The prime accused did his best to convince her that he did not want to hurt her and it were his co-accused who had actually abducted her. He played the ‘hero’ and, meanwhile, kept telling Sarna that it was her male friend (with whom he often used to see Sarna) who had ulterior motives and wanted to kill Sarna’s relatives, the senior official said.
“The accused is a psychopath. He had not disclosed about his motive even to any of the co-accused. To some of them, he said the woman they were to abduct was a hawala operator and she could fetch them crores and to others who were roped in into the plan later, he said that he needed men to thrash a person,” the senior official said.
The next morning, the prime accused took Sarna to a railway station and made her sit on a train heading towards Delhi. By then Sarna was convinced that he was her saviour and even during her interaction with the SSP (Ghaziabad), she requested him not to take any action against the man, who later turned out to be the main accused.
During 36 hours stay, he manipulated her in his favour and made her angry against each one of his accomplices. Before leaving her at the station he asked her whether she was leaving her as friend or foe.
During interrogation, the prime accused revealed that he was not worried since he already had 30 cases against him and it did not affect him if one more is added to his list of crimes. He had planned to settle in Nepal after marrying her, he told police.
He has 30 criminal cases of heinous nature in different police stations in Sonipat, Bhiwani, Kurukshhetra and Jind. Police also recovered three fake driving licenses in different names of Virendra, Sameer and Vinod Kumar with the same original photograph of him and his actual date of birth (25/5/1986), said SSP.
Earlier, police was investigating the role of her former boyfriend Vikram as well her current boyfriend to whom she was speaking to before she was kidnapped.
