The upgradation of infrastructure of the Patparganj and Okhla Industrial Phase III areas, transferred to Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) following the industrial policy of 2010-12, will start from July 4.
The development work will be inaugurated by Delhi Industry Minister Haroon Yusuf in the presence of representatives of industrial associations from the areas. DSIIDC spokesperson said the cost of the construction and maintenance in Patparganj Industrial area is approximately Rs 9.4 while Rs 6.54 will be spent for development works in Okhla Industrial area Phase III.
The Patparganj Industrial area was planned and commissioned in 1992. It has 609 industrial units engaged in manufacturing surgical goods, metal processing, dyeing, electro plating, rolling, etc. The Okhla Industrial Estate Phase III is one of the oldest industrial areas in the city. Conceived by Jawaharlal Nehru, it was developed in 1958 to accommodate light manufacturing units. In the past five decades, the character of the area has changed considerably from manufacturing industry to service as Delhi has expanded into a trading and service hub. This estate has 260 industrial units
The spokesperson said the DSIIDC intends to upgrade the infrastructure of the industrial areas by improving roads, drains and footpaths. The agency responsible for the upgradation work shall also maintain the services for five years. DSIIDC will complete the construction work in both cases within six months.
