Industrial units get sealing relief as Jung orders stay

In a major relief, l-G Najeeb Jung on Tuesday stayed the ongoing sealing drive against the industrial units operating from residential areas in the Capital. The move came after leaders of the three MCDs met the l-G and urged him to suspend action against factory owners citing lack of infrastructure at the alternative location provided in Bawana and Narela.

The seven member delegation headed by North Delhi Mayor Yogendra Chandolia demanded the lieutenant-Governor to defer the sealing of industrial units till the proper survey to ascertain the actual position of the units is confirmed whether they are still running in violation of the norms and the relocated place have been provided with the basic infrastructure. He said that apart from Bawana and Narela, Bhorgarh alone has been relocated with 600 units which lack all the necessary facilities, including proper roads and electricity. Officials said 71 units have been sealed so far. The civic body functionaries detailed the plight of some of the owners and said that many of these units have changed their industries to production units permissible under MPD 2021 in the residential areas. They said despite these unit being non-polluting in nature, they have been not spared of sealing. “In these circumstances, sealing may be stopped till the actual violators are ascertained with current status and to ensure that the basic infrastructure to shift their industries is provided at the place of relocation,” the leaders said.
