Witnessing a series of complaints regarding the lack of parking facility at and around the South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s (SDMC) ‘Waste to Wonder Park’, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal, on Sunday, asked the civic body to increase capacity of stack parking and to improve walkability to the nearest Metro station.

Baijal has also directed the authorities to introduce online ticket booking facility to avoid crowd and rush at the cash counter. The LG, on Sunday, held a review meeting with the officials of SDMC to discuss an innovative solution for managing parking near the park and its nearest metro station.

"Pleased to learn that SDMC's waste to wonder park is drawing large number of visitors. Reviewed further improvement plan and advised the authorities to explore innovative solutions for parking management," Baijal said in a tweet.

"Stack parking to increase capacity, improved walk-ability to the nearest metro station to promote use of metro to visit park, Online ticket booking system etc may be introduced, he said in another tweet.

As per the officials, the park is getting a large number of attractions from people and the visitors are visiting the park but at the same time the SDMC and the traffic police is facing difficulty in manning the crowd and jams due to the lack of proper parking facility.

According to the authority more than 20,000 people visit the park in the weekends and about 15,000 to 18,000 visitors are witnessed in the weekdays and the parking space created by the SDMC at the park is limited as it can accommodate only 66 four wheelers and 31 two wheelers.

The traffic police deployed on the beat said, "It is very difficult to manage the crowd here especially during the peak evening hours. The visitors park their vehicle on the road and Sarai Kale Khan Flyover due to which the entire road traffic managements chokes on this route. More than 1000 vehicles parked in the peak hour and the traffic official tow and issue challans too many vehicles that park their vehicle on the no parking but it becomes tough with large crowd."
