Ahead of winter, the Delhi Government has set multiple plans in motion to tackle the menace of air pollution in the national Capital. In a major initiative, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government on Tuesday  approved financial incentive for industries and eateries using environment friendly fuel. The Government will grant 50 per cent subsidy for hotels and restaurants to stop coal based tandoors.

Importantly, this grant is applicable for all restaurants, eating houses, banquet halls, hotels for replacing and conversion of their coal based tandoors with electricity or gas based tandoors. In terms of air pollution, Delhi faces terrible situations with high values of un-burn carbon particles due to high density of fog, causing asthma and other lung diseases.

Environment Protection Control Authority (EPCA) has already mentioned in its reports about the emissions of harmful particulate matter from burning coal.

Moreover, giving a nod to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee DPCC's proposal for the incentive to industries in Approved Industrial Areas and Redevelopment Industrial Areas for switching over to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), the Government also announced up to one lakh subsidy for industries which switches to PNGs.

Elaborating about subsidy schemes, Delhi Government official spokesperson said that grant of 50 per cent subsidy of the cost or maximum subsidy of Rs  5,000 per tandoor will be given with effect from April 4, 2018. He said the new restaurants, eating houses, banquet halls, hotels which have come up and will come up on or after April 2018 and provides installs Electricity or Gas based Tandoors, shall also be eligible for getting the said subsidy.

The DPCC is authorised for overall implementation and monitoring of the scheme subsidy.
