Feeling like a cog in AAP’s wheel, Sanjay Chawla quits party
In what comes across as a blow to one of Aam Aadmi Party’s biggest vote bank, prominent party member Sanjay Chawla, who was closely associated with the city’s auto drivers, resigned from the party on Thursday claiming that the party has done nothing for the auto drivers except “use them to their benefit”.
Chawla said, “last year before Assembly elections, the party had put posters behind autos. For that 2.5 lakh autos were challaned and 65 autos lost their permits. The party had promised these drivers that they would get their permits back but nothing was done when the party came to power for 49 days. Only promises were made and nothing was delivered.”
The former AAP member claims that it was on the request of the autowallahs that he resigned from the party. “I was repeatedly being told by all the auto drivers that the party was doing nothing. They are disgruntled and angry with the hollow promises the party made to them. They have got nothing except a helpline, which is useless to most of them. I didn’t want to be associated with this fraud anymore so I decided to leave,” informed Chawla.
One of the main complaints made by Chawla was that the party has not even raised the issue of autowallahs this time round. “The party has not even spoken about doing anything for the autowallahs. There is a limit to lying. In fact a party leader even told me this time, when I questioned him on this matter, that the party was going to use and throw the autowallahs like they did this time,” said Chawla.
Meanwhile, senior leaders of AAP dismissed the resignation saying, “In a party where there are crores of members, one leaving doesn’t make a difference.” There was no official statement issued from the party on this issue as senior leaders were unreachable for comment.
