In chasing dirt away, schools pursue cleanliness

Inspired by the Prime Minister’s ‘Clean India’ campaign, several schools in the city carried out cleanliness drives, sanitation workshops and awareness programmes on the occasion of Children’s Day.

The Indian School had even tied up with Defence Colony Welfare Association where students carried out a cleanliness drive at the market. Additionally, over 41,000 students in 254 Satya Bharti Schools across six States of India joined hands to engage with their communities while learning about the importance of sanitation and hygiene. “The idea was that students create awareness drives by conducting rallies and street plays underlining the importance of sanitation and hygiene. Also, communities get educated on the ill-effects of open defecation and lack of personal hygiene on health and environment,” said a representative from the Satya Bharti School. A spokesperson from The Indian School said that their initiative was a long-term one. She said, “This initiative not only created awareness among the shopkeepers, florists, restaurant workers, shopkeepers, ragpickers and sanitary workers about the importance of working towards a clean market, but also included the donation of dustbins, designing posters, banners, pamphlets and badges to promote the cause.”
