In a first, Noida Police to use body cameras

Published on:

The Noida Police is going to be the first city police in Uttar Pradesh where officers will use body-worn cameras. Police officers will record the disturbed law and order situation and sensitive crime scene for electronic evidence.

Five such cameras have been given to Station House Officers in Noida as part of a pilot project. Numbers will increase once the results are assessed, said sources. Police personnel will visit the sensitive areas and crime spots and record the footages during investigations.

Gautam Budh Nagar SSP, Kiran S, said the cameras will have benefits for police as well as improve their accountability. “It will help to collect evidence and offered officers greater confidence about being challenged about their conduct. This will help us in improving law and order situations.”

“The body-worn cameras will help in improving the behaviour of police officers and general public,” SSP added. The Noida Police has taken such initiative after having a meeting with a senior police official of New Zealand. The body worn cameras are at present being used in police in countries of USA and Germany.
