The director of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), MC Misra, has been summoned by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit for the inquiry in connection with Imports of ‘Microscope and its parts by AIIMS from January 2011 till date. The officer has directed Misra to be present in person on Monday. Sources however told The Pioneer that the director was not going to Mumbai to join the investigations.
A copy of summon is with The Pioneer in which “DRI’s Senior Intelligence Officer has sought the director to give the oral evidence and produce documents relating to import of all types of “Microscopes and its parts from January 2011 till date.” The officer has summoned the director under section 108 of the Customs Act, 1962 and asked him to appear before him in person for the detailed inquiry on October 26 at 11 am at DRI’s Mumbai Zonal Office.
It also mentioned, the director to produce the evidence of purchase invoice, country of origin certificate, bill of entry, technical brochure of the product and sale invoice.
“You are not to leave this office without permission, and if the proceeding is adjourned, then without ascertaining the adjourned date,” read the summon to the director.
It also mentioned that, if false evidence is produced in the proceedings, then it is an offence punishable under section 193 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
The AIIMS spokesperson could not be contacted despite repeated attempts to get their version in this regard.
It may be noted that; recently, Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has issued a perjury notice to director on the plea by ex-CVO of the institute Sanjiv Chaturvedi who demanded for the allocation of work against the post of deputy secretary at AIIMS.
Again, on 17 October, a Delhi-based social organisation filed a police complaint against the institute’s director along with other AIIMS official at South Delhi’s Hauz Khas Police station. They alleged red-tapism and gross financial irregularities in the purchase of all surgical, medical and sanitation equipment.
