Imperial, Eros in dock for green disregard

Delhi Government has issued closure notices to two five-star hotels in the city — The Imperial and Eros — for violation of environmental norms. Taking a serious note for failing to abide by the pollution norms, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has directed MCD and Delhi Jal Board to snap the electricity and water supply to the hotels. The inspection report carried by the DPCC officials in The Imperial, found that “the waste water/effluent treatment plant (ETP), namely pretreatment compartment and clarification compartment, was found defunct”.

“The organic waste converter (OWC-composer plant) was emitting a foul smell. In-pretreatment compartment, two pipes were provided and during enquiry the operator informed that in case of emergency a provision is made to discharge directly into clarifier for final discharging and sludge handling mechanism was not provided,” the closure notice said. “Apart from the sewage treatment plant (STP) for the treatment of entire waste water was not installed,” officials said. DPCC officials said that the hotel representatives were earlier asked to submit a firm action plan with proper documents and correspondence related to the installation of Sewage Treatment Plant on March 28. Meanwhile, the notice issued to the Eros Hotel, the closure notice said that the hotel has failed to install STPs and adopt eco-friendly measures despite the MoU target date of September 30 in 2013. The inspection report disclosed that the hotel is yet to start work for installation of STP.

“Neither civil nor mechanical or excavation work started till date. The hotel has installed two solar hot water heating systems having capacity (cumulative) 1,750 and 1,250 (3,000 lPD), Organic waste converter for compositing of organic waste is yet to be installed and the hotel is yet to convert their boilers from oil fired to natural gas fired boiler,” said the notice.
