In wake of the rising crimes against women in the Capital, Gender Sensitisation Committee (GSC) of the School of Open learning, University of Delhi is organising a Self-Defence Training Programme for girl students in close collaboration with the Delhi Police.
The eight-month-long programme would be conducted on three campuses of the SOl in North, South and Campus of Open learning at Keshavpuram.
The programme will be conducted in batches of 10 days beginning September 2015 and will continue until April 2016.
“In view of growing violence against women we strongly feels that girl students would be benefited from this self-defence training programme. It will not only help the students individually, but will also aid in bringing about change in our society and the plight of women in our country “ the GSC stated in a notice.
The training programme will be free of cost and more and more students are urged to come forward to be a part of this programme. Two certificates would be given from the SOl and Delhi Police to the participants at the end of the training.
Meanwhile, Delhi University’s Bharthi College installed CCTV cameras across the campus for the security of women.
The Chief of Delhi Commission of Women Swati Malliwal inaugurated on campus CCTV surveillance in Bharthi College.
Delhi University’s prestigious St. Stephen’s College came in news over an alleged molestation case by a professor recently. A woman research scholar from the Department of Chemistry had alleged that her guide, Professor Satish Kumar, molested her during her PhD course work.
While the Union HRD Minister Smiriti Irani had directed the college to facilitate the victim with the data and necessary means to continue her work, the victim had approached the DCW, which summoned the college Principal Valson Thampu and the professor last month.
The issue is still pending with the DSW.
