Interrogation of Indian Mujahideen’s (IM) new young chief Tehseen Akhtar, alias Monu, has revealed shocking details. Monu in his initial questioning by the Special Cell sleuths has confessed to having received active help from a prominent local leader of Janata Dal (United) in Samastipur, Bihar, for setting up the Darbhanga module of IM. Investigators are now planning to grill Monu and arrested Zia-ur-Rahman, alias Waqas jointly. They are also planning to take Zia-ur-Rahman in Jaipur in the coming days for some more recovery.
Police sources said that Monu belongs to Darbhanga district in Bihar and his father is a pharmacist. He completed his engineering from a college in Darbhanga and during his college days, he met with prominent local leaders of Janata Dal (United) of Samastipur. “”During his college days, Monu met with one arrested terrorist Gayur Ahmad Jamali who introduced him to Kafeel Akhtar and Yasin Bhatkal of the IM. They assigned him the task to rope youth to join anti-India forces in Bihar,” police sources added.
Monu further revealed that Bhatkal assured him that he would provide him all the logistical support to recruit young men and setting up the Bihar module of IM. “Monu then approached a prominent local leader of Janata Dal (United) of Samastipur who helped him in winning over young men, especially of the Muslim community. They visited a madrasa with the help of maulvis,” police sources said, adding that Monu became the new chief of IM after Yasin Bhatkal was arrested the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Investigation has also revealed that the new IM’s chief Monu arrived in Jamia Nagar of South-East Delhi in 2012 and met with Bhatkal’s wife at her residence. He gave her around Rs 1 lakh cash along with a cell phone, which was later recovered by the NIA on the insistence of Bhatkal. “Following interrogation of Zia-ur-Rahman, alias Waqas, now investigators are ascertaining the role of Monu in the serial blasts at BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s Patna rally in the last year. Waqas told investigators that Monu had provided logistical support for terror attacks such as the Hyderabad blasts and Mumbai blasts (13/7),” sources added.
