Acting tough against illegal parking lots running in its areas, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has decided to lodge criminal cases against operators of such illegal parking. According to a recent survey, the civic body has found over a hundred illegal parking sites in North Delhi. Municipal Commissioner PK Gupta, in a recently held meeting, has instructed the officers to identify the illegal parking operators and lodge FIR against them.

“In a recent review meeting, all zonal Deputy Commissioners have been ordered to lodge FIR against the people operating illegal parking. No person will be allowed to charge money for the motorists in unauthorised way in the name of parking charges. All DCs have been also asked to file a compliance report within 15 days,” said Yogendra Singh Mann, Director (Press & Information), NDMC. Officials said 116 parking sites are illegally operating within the limits of NDMC. They said matter would also be taken with local police and Delhi Traffic Police for prompt action. They said it is mandatory to obtain an NOC from the traffic police and approval from the civic body for operating a parking lot. It is noteworthy that there is an equal number of authorised parking lots in NDMC areas.

last month, after receiving several complaints, the NDMC had issued notices to at least 20 parking contractors for violation of set norms. The major violations in parkings in Rohini Zone areas were in terms of use of hand held device, fire fighting equipment, complaint register, uniform of the staff and demarcation of the boundaries of parking lots by a yellow line,” a senior corporation official said. In 2011, the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had also found more than 300 illegal parking sites in the Capital.
