Ill-famed Gurgaon mall wants pubs shut

Published on:

Having had enough of the trouble brewing in the pubs on its premises, Gurgaon’s Sahara Mall authorities have asked the regional excise and taxation commissioner office not to renew their permits.

The management of the mall has also written to the State Government to cancel the licences of all the pubs functional in the mall, which has gained notoriety for brawls and alleged illegal activities.

Recently, the licences of two pubs — last Chance and IPSA — were cancelled. However, three bars are still operational.

The mall management has also asked the owners of these pubs to vacate the premises as their lease agreements have already been terminated. The pubs have in retaliation initiated legal proceedings against the mall.

A spokesperson of the Sahara Mall said: “We have requested the regional excise and taxation commissioner to not renew liquor and bar licences of these pubs for the upcoming financial year after they expire this month. These pubs and bars are running illegal activities within their premises and the mall management has already terminated their lease agreements after we witnessed a series of violent and unsavoury incidents.”

He said we have already terminated the lease agreements of three pubs out of five — Blue Eyes, Prison, IPSA, Ignite and last Chance. The mall officials claimed to have sent reminders and request to regional and additional excise and taxation commissioner (HQ) in Panchkula to cancel the liquor license of all the pubs operating at its premises to prevent nuisance in the mall.

While talking with The Pioneer, Sahara Mall head JK Gupta said, “So far, nothing fruitful is being done in the matter. We also written a letter to Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal seeking security of visitors, shop owners, mall management and common facilities of Sahara mall due to irregularities and public nuisance created by pubs”.
