IGIA air traffic management gets better

Published on:

The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is now equipped with the Airport Delhi airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system, which will improve the overall airport efficiency.

Making use of the system, airport operator, Delhi International Airport limited (DIAl) expects to handle 80 flight movements per hour compared to 75 at present and thus better air traffic management. Senior officials said that the system will allow sharing of real time flight information between various stakeholders such as airport operators, airlines, ground handlers and ATC collaborating and sharing data to increase overall airport efficiency.

According to DIAl, the concept focuses on improving Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management at airports by reducing delays, improving the predictability of events and optimizing the utilization of airport resources. Commenting on the initiative DIAl CEO, I Prabhakara Rao said, "Delhi Airport has achieved an on-time performance of 88 per cent, which is expected to improve with the project in place. The concept is a true game changer in the Indian Aviation industry. A move that will allow to achieve annual savings at IGI Airport of 2500 tons (air traffic fuel) ATF and also leading to 7850 tons of saved carbon dioxide emissions by reducing the taxiway time by even a mere one minute per aircraft. In addition, with three operating runways and the upcoming ATC tower, the airport is poised to handle robust air traffic with best accuracy and efficiency."
