Happiness Curriculum of the Delhi Government received a big thumbs up from the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday , after he proposed the idea of introducing happiness classes across judicial academies in the country on the lines of the curriculum introduced by the Delhi Government in its schools. The CJI was guest of honor at an event held at the Talkatora Stadium to mark the culmination of the 15-day-long ‘Happiness Utsav’ being celebrated in Delhi Government-run schools.
“As the CJI, I was thinking if we all were to remain happy there will be less disputes. People are so unhappy that there are a huge number of litigations pending which go on for years leaving people further unhappy. If we can teach our youths to be happy and content, there will be reduction in litigations,” Gogoi said.
The Chief Justice was addressing an event organised here to celebrate the first anniversary of the introduction of happiness classes in schools run by the Delhi government.
“It was a brilliant concept to have happiness classes. We can explore the same in our judicial academies as well. I am yet to consult my colleagues, but I am sure we can introduce it across judicial academies after hearing students from the audience share their learnings,” he said.
“This is very important considering India’s ranking on the Happiness Index has dropped to 140, while last year it was at 133. Similar modules have been adopted in 12 other countries,” he added.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Happiness not just another government program but it’s building India’s future. Delhi is ready to provide wholehearted support to all states.” It’s a feeling that 8 lakh students of Delhi government schools experience every single day. Every parent is observing this change,” said Kejriwal.
“I will not be here tomorrow. Perhaps even the CJI or the L-G will not be here tomorrow. But it is from these lakhs of children that a future chief minister of Delhi will emerge, the future CJI and the Lieutenant Governor will emerge,” Kejriwal said further. “Perhaps, even the Prime Minister will emerge from among these children. The future of our nation is being built in our schools. This is true nation building. Today, the country’s judiciary is seated inside this hall, the country’s executive is here, and so are legislators,” he added.
Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia said that Delhi will start a Happiness Curriculum certificate course for those who want to replicate model. “We feel the need for this because India’s position on the World Happiness Index has dropped from 118th to 140th. Our dream is that India should reach Number one on this list.”
“I am very happy.. This is a great day, the first anniversary of something big and unique. 1024 schools, 8 lakh students, 45 minutes every
day, learning to be happy,” said CJI Gogoi in his opening remarks. “As far as the children are concerned, I think this is a brilliant idea. Catch them young when they are still open. Teach them to be happy. Teach them the values,” he said.
