The accused — wanted in the murder of a 19-year-old Raju Pandey — has been arrested by the Delhi Police late on Wednesday evening. Identified as Anshu Mulla (19), the accused was allegedly involved in the brutal murder of Pandey in Dakshinpuri area of South-East Delhi. An enquiry has also been initiated into allegations that some policemen dawdled away instead of immediately rushing the victim to the hospital. Video footage showed that Ambedkar Nagar police officers were instead trying to get a statement from the injured boy, who was bleeding profusely and needed urgent medical attention.
However, a senior police official of South-East district said Mulla was arrested from the same area on Tuesday night after a case of murder was registered in this connection at Ambedkar Nagar police station. Nineteen-year-old Raju Pandey was attacked with a knife and scissors by Mulla after the latter’s bike grazed him and Pandey objected to it. “It seems to be a case of road rage. Pandey was standing on the roadside when Mulla passed by on his bike. The bike slightly touched Pandey, following which an argument ensued and Mulla stabbed him repeatedly and fled the scene,” said the official.
Pandey’s mother had alleged that policemen did not rush him to the hospital in time. “There was a policeman who reached the spot but he did not take my son to the hospital,” she alleged. A 32-second video, shot by someone on a mobile phone, also surfaced which shows that the youth was lying in a pool of blood and the policeman is busy asking him something instead of rushing him to the hospital. A PCR van later reached the spot and took him to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Thursday said that he has ordered an inquiry into the allegations of delay. He also said that the PCR van immediately rushed him to the hospital soon after reaching the spot.
“There was no delay in taking him to the hospital. We have sought the video footage of the incident from a news channels and inquiry will be conducted,” he said. According to the Deputy Commissioner Police (PCR) Rajeev Ranjan, they got a call at 6.33 pm and the PCR van reached the spot within two minutes and the victim was immediately rushed to the hospital.
