I-T notice exposes AAP's transparency claim: Ajay Maken

Published on:

Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken on Monday said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)which always claims to be transparent in its fund collection has been issued a notice for `30.7 crore by the ‘Income Tax Department’ for recovery of taxes.

Demanding the issue should be probed by the Central Government, Maken said these irregularities put a question mark on the functioning and claims of the AAP to bring out a transparent system in politics. Maken wondered why the party was backing out from transparent politics on which it was formed.

Maken said the party had given conflicting versions about fund collection to the Income Tax Department, the Election Commission besides putting contradictory information on its website, which was later removed.

He also said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh had rightly said during the Punjab assembly elections that the AAP was being funded by the pro-Khalistan elements outside India. He also alleged that during the assembly elections in Punjab, the party came close to the pro-Khalistani elements.

Maken furthers said that on March 3 this year, the FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulatory Act) of the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued a notice, questioning the foreign funding to the Party. “The sitting senior minister of the Delhi Government Satyender Jain is facing probe for money laundering through shell companies which clearly proves the financial impropriety in the party,” he said.
