The super-luxury lamborghini Murciélago, which had crashed on the central verge at Copernicus Marg on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, has been found to be registered with a real estate company named Better Option Propmart Pvt ltd.
The company’s office was located in Noida but the car’s registration number led to an address of South Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area. Police said that the company was owned by four persons, one of whom has been identified as Gaurav Mavi, who was driving the car at the time of accident. The speeding car valued at around Rs 5 crore, was extensively damaged after it swerved and collided with the pavement. The car skidded and turned turtle before coming to a halt at Copernicus Marg in the highly-protected New Delhi district.
The errant car driver, who was being questioned by the investigators, had abandoned the Italian made sports car on the spot and fled the scene after reportedly hiring a cab. The police had registered a case under the section 279 (rash driving on a public way) against the unknown person at Tilak Marg police station.
A police officer told The Pioneer that when their team went to Kotla Mubarakpur address, they were told no such office existed there. The owners of the company informed that they shifted the office to Noida. Police had earlier suspected that the car was being driven by one of the board of directors or their family members. Investigators have also collected the call records of suspected persons. It seemed the driver took a late night spin as the roads are usually deserted and stepped on the gas not knowing its extreme acceleration capabilities.
