Huge crowd at Navjot Singh Sidhu's roadshow

The Congress leaders with Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu organised a roadshow in Rajouri Garden Assembly bypoll on Friday to seek votes for Congress candidate Meenakshi Chandela. Sidhu alleged that the BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal Badal combined candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa is spending “mafia money” for the election.

The roadshow crisscrossed through the lanes of Khyala village, Chandela Park to Rajouri Garden where local residents and Congress workers joined the campaign to garner support in favour of Congress candidate.

Navjyot Singh Sidhu stole the spotlight with his hard-hitting speech and asserted that the Congress candidate and cannot be defeated in any circumstances. Sidhu said, “SAD-BJP coalition while ruling Punjab, earned illegal money from the drug, transport and the cable mafia. The same money are being used in the by-election,”

“The victory of the Congress candidate in the Rajouri Garden by-election will be the victory of truth. The voters have to decide whether they want to elect a grass-root worker, or the one foisted on them by parachute,” he said.

Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party for stalling all development work, Ajay Maken said that Kejriwal squandered the hard-earned money of the tax payers for self-publicity and for political gain in Punjab and other States.

“Sidhu was accompanied by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Ajay Maken, former MP Mahabal Mishra, AICC secretary in charge of Delhi Kuljit Singh Nagra, former MlA Dayanad Chandela and party candidate from Rajouri Garden. Earlier Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh had kick-started the campaign for the Rajouri Garden by-election and the MCD election on March 30.

Just a day ago Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu along with Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari and Member of Parliament Pravesh Sahib Verma took part in roadshow for BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) combined candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden constituency.

The Congress earlier on Wednesday held flash mob performances in different locations of Rajouri Garden constituency as part of election campaigning under the supervision of Delhi Chief Spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee.

Rajouri Garden seat is dominated by around 50 per cent population of sikhs and Punjabis. The seat was vacated by AAP’s Jarnail Singh as he was fielded against SAD patron Parkash Singh Badal in the Punjab State polls. Jarnail Singh was defeated by Badal by a big margin. This time, the AAP has fielded a new face, Harjeet Singh, in the sikh-dominated constituency.
