The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has directed builders to install a dust monitor system at every construction site larger than 500 square meters to install reliable PM2.5 and PM10 dust devices to measure microscopic fractions of particulate matter or PM (a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets) in the air, which cause serious health problems when inhaled. This is the first time that such order was issued by the pollution body in the state.
Air pollutants such as carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxides, ground-level ozone, particulate matter, sulfur oxides etc are dangerous when they reach human lungs with the air we inhale.
Experts said air pollution goes beyond permissible levels inviting a blanket ban on all construction activities in Delhi MGR every year in a bid to reduce air pollution and this results in losses led to project delays including major impact on homebuyers, developers and construction workers. Meanwhile, HSPCB has told all large construction sites to install a dust monitoring system.
"We have issued directions to all developers and owners of large units, and any unit that doesn’t install sensors will not be allowed to further constructions and operation," said a senior official of the HSPCB.
Meanwhile, the city currently has more than 3,500 large construction or demolition sites with an area of 500 square metres or more.
"We have ensured our workers get clean air accordingly we have deployed and installed every single mechanism at our construction sites so that not only do we monitor air quality and wind direction and speed but we have adopted globally recognised green building norms in detto to ensure the safety of human health and environment," Pradeep Aggarwal, founder & chairman of Signature Global, said.
The officials said laxity in implementation will not be tolerated any more.
