The largest-ever housing scheme of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to be launched on August 25. However, the authority has decided to reduce the number of houses on offer by over 1,000. So, now around 25,000 flats will be available for Delhiites under the new scheme.
“The scheme will be launched on August 25. The forms will be available from that day and anyone in Delhi or the National Capital Region can apply,” said a senior DDA official. The much-awaited scheme comes four years after the DDA offered over 16,000 flats in its 2010 scheme. Previously, the DDA used to announce housing schemes every two years.
Explaining the reasons for the reduction in the flats on offer, the official said that usage of several of them will be converted from residential use to commercial use. “Out of the 1,000 flats which have been cancelled from putting on offer, 383 flats will now be used for opening anganwadi centres. Some flats will be converted for commercial purpose wherein we are planning to open shopping arcades,” said the official. Besides, after the direction of the High Court, the authority will reserve around 300 flats for slum dwellers.
The 1,000 flats scrapped from the scheme were under the ‘low-cost flat’ category which falls between the low Income Group (lIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) categories. “The one room set or low-cost flat category houses comprise one bedroom and one drawing room along with the kitchen and a bathroom,” said a senior DDA official. While earlier the authority was offering 24,000 low-cost flats, now 23,000 such flats will be open for the public. These low-cost flats will be available for applicants for Rs14 lakh-Rs15 lakh. Apart from the 23,000 one-room apartments, the authority will also build another 2,000-2,500 flats which will fall under the lIG, Medium Income Group (MIG) and High Income Group (HIG) categories. The houses will be spread across Rohini, Narela and Dwarka and will be priced from Rs20 lakh to Rs1 crore. “lIG flats will be priced between Rs22 lakh to Rs25 lakh and that of MIG will range from Rs45 lakh to Rs55 lakh. HIG flats will be sold between Rs90 lakh to
Rs1 crore. Apart from this, we are also giving 700 EWS flats which will be sold at Rs6 lakh,” informed the official. Officials also said this will be the first time green features will be made available in DDA houses. Officials said the multi-storey buildings will be being built in accordance with the Master Plan Delhi 2021.
