Hot chase of armed robbers creates chaos in Hauz Khas

Published on:

There was chaos in Hauz Khas when two cops, who were patrolling in civil clothes — to keep a check on criminals — caught hold of an armed robber after a hot chase of over a kilometre. He along with his accomplice were looking for a vulnerable target. Seeing the cops approaching to them, the men fled and as cops approached nearer  they pulled out pistols and tried to open fire, but were overpowered and caught. One of them managed to flee.

Two Constables, Irshad and Sanjay were patrolling near the Hauz Khas main market when they noticed two men on a Pulsar bike who were standing beside the road and keeping a check on people heading towards the market.

Finding this suspicious, the cops went up to them and asked what they were up to. When they asked the cops to go and said that it was none of their business, the duo told them that they are policemen, the criminals started their bike and fled towards Aurobindo Road.

The cops chased them through the lanes and managed to overpower the driver, who was later identified as Ajazuddin (32). The pillion, however, managed to get off the bike and started running in the other direction. Constable Sanjay chased him but as he got closer, the accused pulled out a country made pistol from his pocket aimed it towards the cop's chest.

As he was about to pull the trigger, Sanjay leaped over and caught hold of the man, but dropping the pistol at the spot, the accused, pushed the cops aside and managed to flee from the spot.

A senior police official said that a case under sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and sections of Arms Act has been registered at the Hauz Khas police station and one person has been arrested. They said that efforts are being made to nab the man who managed to flee from the spot.
