It is going to be a hot and sultry week ahead for Delhiites as the Met department has predicted temperatures to touch the 45-degree mark in the coming days. City dwellers faced one of the hottest days of the season on Wednesday with the maximum temperature touching 43.4 degrees Celsius.
On Wednesday, the city reeled under intense heat as the maximum temperature soared to 43.4 degrees Celsius which was three notches above normal. In contrast to the maximum temperature, the minimum temperature remained two points below normal at 26 degrees Celsius. Humidity oscillated between 21 and 65 per cent during the day. Palam also sizzled with the second hottest day this season as the mercury jumped to 45.8 degrees Celsius. It had earlier recorded 46 degree Celsius breaking a record of 16 years.
There is going to be no respite for Delhiites in the coming days as the Met department has ruled out the possibility of rains. “The Western Disturbance has left the city. The sky is going to remain clear now on. People should be prepared to brace the heat as the mercury will only soar from here on,” said an official in the Met department.
According to the Met department, the day temperature may touch 44 degrees Celsius on Thursday which would breach the record of this season’s highest 43.7 degrees which was recorded on May 29. The temperatures would remain at a constant high from Friday to Sunday settling possibly at 45 degree Celsius. “After Sunday, June 9 and 10 may have a drop in temperature but that too will be nominal. The maximum will remain at 44 degrees Celsius,” added the official. The Met department at Palam has predicted a storm at IGI Airport on Thursday between 8pm to 9 pm. Flight operations may get affected.
