Horse-trading row: BJP files complaint against AAP

Published on:

Following the disclosure of a former AAP MlA that that calls, with Arvind Kejriwal’s “consent”, were made to several party MlAs impersonating officials from Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Nitin Gadkari’s office and offering them crores of rupees to support BJP, the Delhi BJP on Wednesday filed a police complaint against the AAP. The complaint was lodged by Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay. Meanwhile, leader of Delhi BJP legislative Party Vijendra Gupta criticised the Delhi Government’s directive to the Chief Secretary to route all public order files related to police, services and DDA through the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). Gupta has urged lt Governor Najeeb Jung to send a report in this matter to the Union Home Ministry and obtain direction in this regard and till then no files be sent to Delhi Government Ministers.

Gupta has said that Delhi being a Union Territory as per the constitutional provisions powers to take all decisions pertaining to land use, law & order and transfer postings of senior level vest with the Union Home Ministry. The lt Governor acts as the constitutional authority under Article 239 A of the Constitution but it was a matter of concern that, violating all procedures & protocol, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wanted access to all files on public order related to police, services & DDA.

Gupta has said from time to time the Central Government and the lt Governor have invited suggestion of elected Governments in Delhi. In fact as a Union Home Minister lK Advani had allowed some written relaxation too in 1998, but never in Delhi there has been confrontation between the Chief Minister and the lt-Governor on the matter of public order files. Gupta has said that Kejriwal was unduly interfering to create a politically vicious atmosphere. His intention was to create a politically-confronting atmosphere just to divert public attention from his failing promises to people and ruthless autocratic functioning within his party, alleged Gupta.
