Despite claiming a surplus power situation in the national Capital, the city continues to suffer in darkness. Prolonged power outages in various parts of the city have made the common man sweat. Delhi witnessed power shortage to the tune of 430 MW on Monday, leading to outages all across the city.
East Delhi areas remained the worst affected where outages were frequent since Sunday. People said on Monday, too, there were repeated power cuts making life difficult. Officials said the power shortage was due to breakdown of the Badarpur Thermal Power Station (BTPS) link to Delhi Transco limited’s (DTl) Ghazipur 220 KV nearly 10 days ago in the Noida segment.
Even after so many days, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation limited (UPPCl) is still carrying out works to mend the grid. As a result, East Delhi is facing severe power cuts to the tune of four hours in many areas.
These places include Mayur Vihar Phase I, II and III, Patparganj, Ghazipur, Kondli, laxmi Nagar, Anand Vihar, Karkarduma, Preet Vihar, Geeta Colony and Shakarpur.
“Delhi is currently getting 430 MW less power in its share. While the Nathpa Jhakri plant is completely shut due to high level of silt in the water, parts of the Maithon Power station in Jharkhand which gives 280 MW of power to Delhi is also malfunctioning,” officials said.
Areas like Uttam Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Sarita Vihar, Mehrauli, Janakpuri, Paschim Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Moti Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Saket and Malviya Nagar have been facing power cuts ever since summers began this year.
