After finding no place in an Honours course under the third cut-off list at Delhi University, students are now looking at doing BA Pass in the subjects they wanted an Honours in. According to students, since they are not getting to do Honours because of their less percentage, it is better to do a pass course in those subjects as even private universities offer the same thing at an exuberant rate.
While the third cut-off list has drastically dropped points in a few courses for admissions, the top colleges have kept their cut-offs above 95 per cent for most popular Honours courses. This has left students between the bracket of 85-90 with no choice but to go for BA Programme in order to pursue their desired subject. Rishika Sharma, a student who wants to pursue Economics Honours said, “I’m getting a BA Programme in Hindu College with Economics and Philosophy as my main subjects. I’m alright with this combination because I got through Economics in another lesser ranked university which is offering me the same course.”
Students are now looking at where they will get to learn the most. “It is better to study the subjects at least and then do a MA later,” said Avantika Seth, who wants to do English Honours.
Students of Mathematics are also facing this issue. Meher Sandhu has got admission in Jesus and Mary College for BA Programme with Mathematics and Economics as her main subjects. “I tried getting through via the Sports quota as well but haven’t cleared it. I also had Shiv Nadar University’s offer to join the Mathematics course but it is the same as the one I’m getting in JMC. It is better to pursue this in DU as it is a reputed university,”she said.
The university is currently underway its admissions under the third list. The next list will be out on July 11.
