Home Min not paying attention to Delhi Govt's problems: CM

Published on:

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh stating that the Home Ministry was not paying any attention to the problems faced by the Delhi Government, despite the issues being raised to the Union Ministry repeatedly.

In the letter addressed to Rajnath Singh, Arvind Kejriwal has written that there has been no response on the part of Home Ministry to the State Government’s complaints about the problems faced by them, whether they are about the compensation to 1984 riot victims, or the appointment of senior officials, or the 1998 notification issued on transfer of power.

After forming the Government in February, Kejriwal had raised the issue of Delhi Government’s approval in appointments of senior officials. It had also asked the Union Home Ministry to release funds for the increased compensation for victims of 1984 riots that the Union Government had announced.

The letter also states that clarity on these matters is very important for the proper functioning of the Government and that the Union Home Ministry is not taking any interest in these issues despite being apprised of them by multiple letters addressed by the State Government.

It must be noted, however, that Kejriwal wrote this letter exactly a day after lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung’s direction to the Delhi Government officials to follow the Constitution of India and Transaction of Business rules of GNCT Delhi Act 1993.

Earlier, a circular was issued by Kejriwal directing not to route files through the lt. Governor, creating quite a controversy. However, the l-G did not like this circular as the same was against the very tenets of the transaction of business of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi. Jung wrote back to the CM and reminded him about the rules and regulations vis-à-vis governance.
