Before the non-bailable warrant was issued against former Delhi law Minister Somnath Bharti, a heavy courtroom drama of love and hate was witnessed on Monday morning, when Somnath Bharti applied for an anticipatory bail. In the courtroom, lipika stated that she still loves Bharti but doesn’t want reconciliation as he has ill-treated her, the Delhi MlA’s counsel said that Bharti is ready to “woo” her back.
His counsel Vijay Aggrawal said Bharti still wants a mediation process with his wife. “He wants to take care of his children and would like to live with his family again…he still loves her and she is the mother of his two kids,” he said. Bharti’s counsel also claimed that lipika has shown a soft approach towards Bharti and has texted him even while having an estranged relationship. She enquired about his health and whereabouts. The counsel, in the meanwhile, also accused lipika of having problem with her mother-in-law.
Additional Sessions Judge Sanjay Garg, after listening to the arguments of Bharti’s lawyer proposed for a mediation process, which lipika rejected. She said that she still loves her husband but cannot go for reconciliation as he left her to die and didn’t care for her children. “He slapped me, strangulated me and also unleashed our pet dog over me. I have trusted this man just for the sake of my kids but he has abused me time and again,” she said. Ironically, Bharti did not appear for the mediation on three occasions out of four sessions.
lipika, however, refused for another round of mediation. “I am not ready for a mediation process otherwise another abuse would take place,” she said.
Making repeated attempts to seek bail for Somnath Bharti, the counsel said Bharti being a legislator will not escape and thus, should be given bail. He said, “The Delhi Police and the Aam Aadmi Party are at loggerheads that is why Bharti is facing such situation. All these arguments were however rejected by the court.
