High Court rap for emblem abuse

Congress leader Pratyush Kanth on Tuesday filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against AAP MlA from Kirari Assembly constituency Rituraj Govind for misusing the State emblem. In the petition, Pratyush Kanth has alleged that the AAP MlA from Kirari constituency had been distributing ID cards to his party representatives bearing the State emblem. The cards with the name and the address of the party workers also allegedly have the designation ‘In-charge Anti-Corruption’ written on them.

“Some two-three days back, the AAP MlA from Kirari had organised a Sarkari Naukri Mela. When I got to know about it, we got a sting done and what we found out was that the AAP MlA was issuing ID cards to the people with Ashoka Chakra printed on them. One can mistake them for official representatives and this is completely unlawful,” said Pratyush, who had contested the recently-held Assembly elections from the same constituency.

The petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution seeks to prohibit the misuse of the State emblem in contravention of Section 3 of the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005. The matter has been listed in High Court for Wednesday.
