A 22-year-old domestic help has alleged that she was physically harassed and verbally abused by a businessman and his daughter at his house in Northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar Phase-2 area. “As per the complaint, the help was telephonically threatened by the male friends of the girl after the domestic help complained of being physically harassed by the girl's father, a businessman," said a senior police officer.
Confirming the incident, Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Northwest said, "A case has been registered under IPC Sections 354 (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) at the Ashok Vihar police station. Further probe is on."
The officer on Thursday said, "We received a complaint from a 22-year-old woman a couple of days ago. As per her complaint, she works as a domestic help. A fortnight ago, the woman started working in the house of one 45-year-old businessman. On the first day she joined, ie, December 13, the woman help was warned by other maids that no one stays for work in the businessman's house for long. After the death of his wife, the businessman stays with his daughter."
Quoting the complaint, the officer said, "Not paying heed, I continued to work. However, one day, while I was preparing lunch, the businessman came and groped me from behind. when I raised an alarm, he left. A few hours later, I complained about his indecent behaviour to his daughter but she chided me away."
A day later, the woman accompanied by her sister-in-law went to talk to the businessman's daughter but in vain.
Following the rebuke, the woman help started getting threat calls from unknown numbers. "The caller claimed that they are friends of the girl in whose house she works. Scared, the woman approached the police."
