A day after septuagenarian couple were found dead at their residence in Amar Colony locality of South east Delhi, the Delhi Police on Monday arrested a woman and her son for allegedly killing the old aged couple.
The accused used to work as a part time maid at the house of the deceased. Police have also recovered robbed cash of Rs 9 lakh, gold jewellery, mobile phones, wallet, ATM cards, 2 cameras, wrist watch, woolen cap of deceased from their possession.
The accused identified as Sabiha Parveen alias Salma (50) resident of Sangam Vihar has been arrested while her juvenile son has been apprehended for conspiracy of murder and robbery.
According to Chinmoy Biswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South-east district, (PCR) call was received on Saturday at around 10.30 am regarding a senior citizen identified as Virender Kumar Khaneja (77) a retiree from private sector along with his wife Sarla (72), who had reportedly gone missing.
“The complainant told police that their last conversation on phone was on January 16, 2019, following which the senior citizen could not be contacted following which team rushed to the spot and found the elderly lying dead.
A case was registered and investigation was taken up,” said the DCP.
“During investigation, the accused Sabiha Parveen who used to work on part-time basis and visited house of the deceased once or twice a week, to give massage to Sarla was examined. On the analysis of the CCTV footage of the Mount Kailash Apartments a young boy was seen in one of the footages. On thorough enquiry, the suspicious young male was found resembling son of the maid Salma. The accused were again called for questioning and response of Salma and her son was evasive and they even tried to mislead the police.
There was contradiction in the statements given by them. They both were confronted with their movements and on thorough questioning; Salma broke down and confessed the guilt,” said the DCP.
“During interrogation, accused Salma stated that few days ago she saw deceased Virender Khaneja keeping some cash in the locker of the house. In order to earn quick money, Salma along with her Juvenile son hatched conspired to kill and rob the elderly couple,” said the DCP.
