Amid the rush for the most sought-after Honours courses like Economics, Commerce and English, other courses too are attracting students mainly for the job opportunities. One among them is the courses of Computer Science, which is offered by 15 colleges at the Delhi University.

The course was earlier offered as a BSc degree, but now after the implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme its profile too has changed, and it now provides a Btech degree.

“The trend of following just few courses has changed. Students have become cautious and look for courses that can make them employable and Computer Science is a course that students opt in large numbers today. Queries about it have also gone up and so have the application forms. This remains the first choice in the six Btech courses that the university offers. The graduates in this course get ample options to join companies as Hardware Engineers, Analysts and are also hired by prestigious banks. Companies come for placements for such candidates in colleges too," said Gulshan Sahwney, Deputy Dean, Students Welfare.

Each college has an average of 45 seats for this course and Miranda House introduced the course for this academic session. Colleges like Kirori Mal, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College and Khalsa College offer the course and Hindu College too has expressed the willingness to introduce it next year.

Students opting for this course have plenty of options to explore in fields of Web Designing, Web Developing and Marketing. It includes subjects of Computer Programming, Coding, Networking, Software Developing, Data Communication and Database.
