Scores of students and parents attended the first day of ‘Open Days’ — the pre-admission interactive session at the Delhi University on Monday. University administration clarified the procedure of application for admissions in the DC-I Courses, among which they informed that the entrance examination for English, Journalism and Mass Communication has been scraped this year.
Most of the students were clear on the new format of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programmes and said they expected it to be good for their long-term and over-all development. Students were given pamphlets explaining the admission procedure for applying to various courses.
The parents and students were given a detailed presentation by the jury. Questions related to courses nomenclature, admissions process and cut-off related confusions were clarified during the interaction. Astha Maini from Janakpuri, was in Commerce stream in Class 12, wanted to know about the procedure of getting into English honours. "I thought, due to removal of entrance for English it would get difficult for a Commerce Student like me to pursue it, but the interaction has helped me to find solutions. The jury said that there are around 22 colleges that offer English honours and on the basis of cut-off, the chances were not slim to get admitted in any of the colleges. I am switching from Commerce to English so there were many things I was not confident about, but now the option of multiple exit point has relaxed me," Maini said.
There were few students from other cities who complained about confusion on date on 'Open Days' and thought it was the beginning of admissions on Monday. They said that Delhi University must have created awarness on a national level rather than city-centric debate. Replying to this JM Khurana, the Dean of Students Welfare said the students must keep checking the website and also read newspapers. He said the interactive session began on a positive note and same is expected of the new session.
