Health experts issue red flag

The pollution scenario in the national Capital has reached to highly dangerous level.  The enormity of the situation can be judged from the fact those exposed to the “severely polluted Delhi air need Body Burden Test (BBT) as pollutants in the air can trigger presence of mercury, lead and other heavy metals in human body.

The health experts and environmentalists have drawn the red flag over the continuously deteriorating air quality and have advised Delhiites to wear “Pollution Masks” to save themselves from the poisonous air in the national Capital.

The Term Body Burden (BB) refers to the level of chemical contaminants that are in our bodies. Heavy metals like mercury, lead could be inhaled by humans as the presence of these metals are high in noxious air. Continuous exposure to air pollutants can cause deposition of these substances in the human body.

City health experts are now recommending the people to wear pollution masks before they go out. “Symptoms of body burden are chronic fatigue, feeling sick all the time, dizziness, allergic reactions to everything and burning feet,” said a health expert.

Gopal Krishna, Environmentalist, Toxic Watch Alliance (TWA), said continuous and repeatedly exposure in Delhi air have become a reason of multiple disorders among city residents. “Mercury may have toxic effects on nervous, digestive, immune system and lungs, kidneys, skin and eyes. Incidence of harmful gases in air, which city people are inhaling can also become the reasons of neurological disorders,” said the environmentalist.

“Transport and industries are the largest source of air pollution in the city as both are primary source of Particulate Matter (PM) and gases like sulfur dioxide, Nitrate oxide, hydro carbons and carbon monoxide,” Krishna said.
