The Delhi High Court is all set to hear the bail plea of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar — charged with sedition for allegedly raising anti-India slogans on February 9 event held in JNU to hail Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru — at 10.30 am on Tuesday.
In his bail plea, Kanhaiya has claimed that he was wrongly arrested on the basis of an FIR which was devoid of evidence to book him under such a serious charge.
His counsel said the petition is limited to bail for Kanhaiya who was arrested on February 12 and remanded to judicial custody on February 17, amid violence at Patiala House courts which was the scene of attacks on the students’ leader and journalists by a group of unruly lawyers.
In the plea, he has also claimed that no case is made out against him as there was no evidence as he had never raised any anti-national slogan during the event organised in JNU on February 9.
