The Delhi High Court has sought response from the police on the anticipatory bail plea of an IFS officer, currently posted in China, in a case registered by a woman last year. She claimed the man raped her on pretext of marriage. Issuing notice to the police, Justice Siddharth Mridul sought a reply by July 5.

The 2010 batch officer, who is currently a probationer in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is based in Beijing. He has said he will join investigations after his language course at China Foreign Affairs University ends, on July 11.

The diplomat also denied the allegations.  "The complaint is nothing but an abuse of the process of court and sheer harassment of the petitioner. The applicant may suffer irreparable loss if he remains behind bars," the officer’s plea noted.

A trial court had ordered registration of an FIR at Vasant Vihar Police Station in December last year.According to her complaint, the woman met the officer on a social networking website in December 2010. He had pressurised her into a physical relationship, promising marriage.

The woman claimed they had even got married at a Kalkaji temple in October 2011 but the IFS officer did not want to make it public. He again married her at a Sanatan Dharm mandir in GK-II on March 26 last year, in the presence of her family. The woman, however, alleged that she later got to know that he had married another woman in February 2012 for dowry.
