Having earned its spurs in Delhi, AAP pitching tents in UP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has placed high stakes for lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh. The party is now considering to channelise and spread their support base in UP with 80 seats in the lok Sabha.

The AAP leaders, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, will be pitching their tents in UP as they think that their party already has a base in Delhi. Hence, they have to concentrate in other seats.

Party sources said the top leadership will be focussing in UP by organising an aggressive campaign throughout the State. “The National Executive of party has directed senior leaders, especially the prominent faces of their party, to be present in all the rallies and roadshows. The district-level teams in all States and ward level will guide the senior leaders to woo the voters of their State,” a senior party leader said.

Party sources further stated that it has been decided in their meeting that Kejriwal, his close associate Manish Sisodia and in-charge of UP affairs Sanjay Singh have been asked to lead the campaign and ensure their presence in all kinds of activities related to the election campaign. “We have decided to facilitate all the party support and other financial support to our nominated candidates for Delhi. But in Delhi, no senior party leader, excluding Sanjay Singh will come for campaign,” he added.  However, during Delhi Assembly election, around 51 rallies were organised across wards, Assembly segments and colleges for targeting the youth and all the rallies were led by senior party leaders.

The National Executive of the party has also instructed that all the candidates nominated for the upcoming lok Sabha Assembly election will have to conduct their campaign along with the party workers in their constituency. “Retaliating to the Pol Khol Abhiyan of the Congress party, the AAP is planning a big rally in the Capital this month and the rally will be led by senior party leader Sanjay Singh,” an AAP leader added.

Meanwhile, the AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday urged the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) VS Sampath to issue clear guidelines to organisations conducting opinion polls as well as the media for ensuring their authenticity so that those indulging in ‘frivolous activities’ do not get away easily. “The AAP demands that Election Commission should issue clear guidelines to organisations conducting these (opinion) polls and media houses which intends to publish and telecast such polls for fixing the accountability of the job done by them, so that those indulging in frivolous activities don’t get away easily,” said Kejriwal, in a letter to the CEC.
