Eyeing to regain power in Delhi after 15 years, the BJP on Tuesday played a trump card by promising Delhi Migrants Commission for the social, economic and cultural development of the migrants living in the Capital. The move aims at wooing the dominant Poorvanchalis and migrants from other South Indian and hilly regions that form a major chunk of voters in the Capital.
“Out of nearly two crore people living in Delhi, more than one crore are migrants from other States. They are playing an important role in the social and economic development of Delhi. After coming to power, the BJP will constitute Delhi Migrants Commission for their all round development,” said BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan. He alleged that during the last 15 years, the Congress-led Government has treated them as a burden and not as an asset.
“The Congress has always treated them in step motherly way. The administration also treats them as a burden. Even the police administration considers them as ‘headache’ for the city and treats them in a step-motherly manner,” he added.
“Migrants in most parts of the Capital are not provided even with the basic facilities of drinking water and proper sanitation. The Migrants Commission will ensure basic amenities and respectable life for the migrants. This commission will prepare a report for improving their standard of living in a time-bound manner. “The BJP will take the action immediately on the report and provide them with the proper place they deserve in Delhi,” Vardhan promised. “Recently UNESCO of the UNO has published a report under the caption social inclusion of migrants at internal level in India. It has been mentioned in this report that the population of the cities of India contains one-third people who have migrated from villages and towns. They play an important role in the economic development of the cities where they live,” he said.
