The Delhi Government will commemorate Children's Day by organising cultural programmes and other activities at more than 100 locations across the city on November 14, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Monday.

The initiative -- 'Dilli for Children' -- seeks to develop a “sense of belongingness” for the city among children, Sisodia said.

Sisodia said November 14 would be a holiday for all Government offices and schools, and directions to this effect would be issued to private schools soon. Even private schools may remain shut, Sisodia said, not clarifying whether they will be ordered to do so.

Addressing the media, Sisodia said, “Children Happiness Festival” would be organised at over 100 locations across the city on November 14. “The festival will feature sports, arts and cultural programmes and activities, in which children can participate.”

He said the Government would facilitate locations for the festival and different groups, including NGOs, residents' welfare societies and individuals would organise different activities for the festival.

“We want to send a message to the children that Delhi enjoys with your enjoyment,” Sisodia said. The Deputy Chief Minister said that schools and offices were being given a holiday to encourage people to attend the

programmes with their children.

Sisodia said that the initiative will make children feel special and help contain the impact of recent incidents such molestation in private schools in their minds.
