Delhi University’s Hansraj College has come up with 25 skill development courses, including an exclusive computer course, for its students on nominal charges. The college will provide the 10-day computer course for free to the students falling under the category of SC/ST and Physically Challenged Students.

“We have realised that even though students take up admission in college many of them have lack in basic computer skills. Now that the examination is coming to an end by Dec 10, the courses will start in five days time after the exams which is December 15,” Acting Principal of the college, Rama Sharma told The Pioneer.

The 25 courses would be of different time period from one to six months including the 10-day computer course.  While the computer course is free of cost students of different categories, the general category students will have to pay fees of `125 only.

“We have ensured that more and more students benefit from these courses in the college thus we are providing them at very nominal charges. For the courses spread across longer period, the fees charged would also be nominal,” Sharma added.

She said extra-curricular activities along with skill based courses will be an added feature for the students in the times when the knowledge of an skill is of great value.

Sharma also added that not only would the college faculty train students in these courses but expert faculty would be called by the college.  “We are trying to collaborate with professionals outside the college and if some beneficial deal is formed, we will go ahead with that,” she further added.
