Utkarsh Verma who was murdered by his kidnappers could have been saved had the elite Special Cell of Delhi Police could have managed to identify the location of the two calls from the kidnappers. The calls were received by the parents of the child within a gap of two hours. The first call was made on his mother Mamta Verma’s cellphone at 7.30 pm on Tuesday while the second call came on his father Mukesh Verma at 9.30 pm. The kidnappers had used different cell numbers for making the ransom call. Sources said that mastermind was somebody, who was a close relative and was probably near the house of Utkarsh to watch the movement of the police. The kidnapping was carried by hired criminals who were well versed with the topography of the area and they also knew the timing when Utkarsh would leave the school after studies, they added.
It may be noted that Delhi has registered an increase in the number of kidnapping for ransom cases as Delhi Police registered 31 cases as compared to 28 last year.
