The post-mortem report of the suspected auto thief, who died in Ghaziabad Police's custody, has revealed there were 12 ante-mortem injuries on his body.
The back, legs and arms contained contusions and abrasions. In the meantime, the family members of the deceased — Shakeel — alleged that on Saturday night some police officers tried to offer them a bribe of Rs 15 lakh. All the culprits, eight police personnel, including Kavi Nagar Police station officer were absconding.
The Ghaziabad Police neither made an attempt to arrest the culprits nor sought any attachment order of their properties before the court under Section 82 of Cr PC, said Ummed Ali, the advocate for the victim.
"If police continues the same trend of investigation, a delegation of Dasna residents would proceed to lucknow and meet the Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav," Ali said. However, DIG of UP Police K Satynarayan claimed the suspected auto thief was suffering from acute tuberculosis. "The ante-mortem injuries found on his body could contribute to the fatality," he said. The investigation officer -- Circle Officer (CO) IV Rajesh Pandey -- told that he just returned after holidays.
“It is my first day after holidays; I would accept the case dairy first and then collect evidence. Next step of legal action — to arrest the culprits — would be taken afterward,” he said.
Earlier, an alleged auto thief, picked up for questioning by the Ghaziabad Police, died during interrogation while in custody. He succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital on Saturday.
