The Ghaziabad police on Thursday briefly confiscated Rs3 crore from a car on National Highway-24 under Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad. Income Tax officials were called who verified the papers of the car and questioned a man carrying the money. It was reported that the money was meant for BJP’s lucknow office, said official.
“We informed officials who verified the papers and allowed the man to go. The cash has been released,” said Inspector Yadav.
“During vehicular checking at CISF crossing at National Highway-24, the traffic police constable found a bag containing cash in the dickey of a Swift car. On being questioned the occupants of the car who revealed his name Anoop Agrawal could not satisfy the police. So he was taken to the Indirapuram police station,” said Traffic Inspector Anil Yadav.
When Anoop called the real owner of the car, he reached the police station and revealed his name Manoj Gupta. He told the police that the cash was transported to the lucknow to meet the expenses of the BJP State headquarters where repair work is in progress.
He told the police that an authorization letter was given to the car driver but police did not agree with the letter and took him to the police station. “We called the income tax officials. They verified the papers and allowed him to go. So the cash has been released” added the Inspector Yadav.
