A 35-year-old gym trainer was shot thrice in both legs on Monday night at Amar Colony in south-east Delhi. A police team reached the spot after which the injured was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre. However, on Tuesday morning, his parents shifted him to Holy Family Hospital where he will be undergoing surgery on Wednesday.
The incident took place around 10.30 pm, when Ravi Thapa was returning home from the gymnasium after buying a cake for his daughter’s birthday.
After he was dropped by a friend on scooter, a few meters from his home and as he started walking towards home, two men shot him thrice from back and fled away from the spot. “I couldn’t see anyone and none of them talked to me. They opened fire and ran away on a bike. It was my daughter’s seventh birthday. Everyone at home was waiting for me. Cake was in my hand when two men rained bullets on me”. Thapa said.
His friend Nishant Basoi heard the gunshots and spotted him lying in a pool of blood. In view of his critical condition, Nishant called Thapa’s family and a police control room.
“Near my gym is a meat shop and its owner has threatened me many a time of dire consequences. I suspect his involvement in this case. The truth will come to light only after investigations are completed”, Thapa said.
The residents of the area initially thought the sound was of crackers. However they came to know about the incident only after police reached the spot.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder at Amar Colony police station and are scanning the CCTV footage of the area for clues.
Deputy Commissioner of police (south-east), Romil Baaniya said, “A case has been registered and investigations have been taken up. Yet no arrest has been made”.
